The Dahshur Workshops, in collaboration with The French Embassy in Egypt / French Institute in Egypt, announce a comprehensive free program for short films. This opportunity is designed to nurture and develop the talents of young filmmakers through a series of intensive workshops in residency and online.
In an integrated ecosystem , participants will receive hands-on training from industry experts and engage in cinematic activities that allow them to connect with other filmmakers .The program also offers the opportunity of a grant to contribute to the production of the selected films.
The goal of the program is to create a new path for creative young people with fresh voices to enrich cinema with unique, cohesive, and interconnected experiences that reflect their environment and identity.
The program lasts for 10 months and consists of five workshops in residency , each lasting five intensive days, covering key areas: development, directing, production, cinematography and editing, sound design, and distribution in addition to the online training and follow up. The program includes film screenings and discussions with experts in the cinematic field and hands-on training on site. The participants will receive a grant to contribute to the production of their films.
The French Embassy in Egypt, through its cultural department, the French Institute, is pursuing an ambitious policy of bilateral audiovisual cooperation between France and Egypt.
In addition to holding weekly screenings and numerous exceptional screenings in the presence of film-makers throughout the year at the French Institute in Cairo, the Embassy also regularly supports young Egyptian film-makers to attend festivals in France, or by financing innovative and original projects and festivals, by artists from the emerging audiovisual scene.
The French Embassy in Egypt is also keen to support initiatives to decentralize the film industry, so that the country’s different regions are represented, and to encourage parity between male and female directors.
This desire to promote youth, gender equality and cultural decentralization is once again reflected in this project entitled “Les Ateliers de Dahchouria”.
Dahshur Workshops was established in 2012 by producer and director Marianne Khoury. The workshops aim to support and nurture the talents of artists from all paths of life by hosting filmmaking, cultural and artistic workshops. Surrounded by nature and history, Dahshur Residence provides artists with an exceptional setting conducive to productivity and reflection. The space is designed to enable the participants to disconnect from the urban chaos hampering their creativity so that they can fully unwind and focus on developing their respective projects. The Dahshur workshops play an important role in developing the cinematic scene in Egypt, having hosted more than 500 filmmakers so far. This extensive experience has made it a rich platform for creativity, where participants find the necessary support and guidance to achieve their artistic visions. With the presence of a cinema hall and Image & sound editing units, the Dahshur workshops are a significant station in the journey of filmmakers from development to screening, contributing to the creation of a rich ecosystem for cinematic growth.

We invite young Egyptian filmmakers and artists interested in short film production to apply. The program is open to Egyptians of all genders. Participants are required to stay for the entire residency period in El- Dahshureya.

Participants will be selected based on the strength, authenticity, and originality of their project. Selected applicants will be invited for an interview with the program organizers. We aim to accept 10 projects and are looking for filmmakers and artists who are open, flexible, and ready to work creatively and collaboratively. We eagerly seek stories from filmmakers across Egypt’s diverse cities, ensuring that each narrative is a genuine reflection of their unique experiences and backgrounds. Previous work is not a key factor in the selection process.
